The Mosquito Intelligence Academy (M.I.A.) is a K-6 NGSS-aligned boot camp. Students are empowered to take charge of their properties and halt the mosquito invasion.

Presentation

Visits begin with a brief presentation to review mosquito main points that align with the state standard for the particular grade.

 

Then, students rotate through two experiences:

NGSS-aligned Game Play and the Mosquito Discovery Table.

NGSS-aligned Game Play

Students play NGSS-aligned games based on their grade level. These games reinforce concepts learned in the pre-visit videos.

Mosquito Discovery Table

Students explore the Mosquito Discovery table. They see live mosquitoes in various life stages and under the microscope, inspect prepared slides, and match various insect figurines to their life stages.

Presentation

Visits begin with a short NGSS-aligned presentation. Students learn about mosquitos, source reduction, and bite prevention.

Then, students rotate through two experiences: Mosquito Discovery Table and Journey of the Germ (grades 4 & 6) or a water quality game (grade 5).

Students explore the Mosquito Discovery table. They see live mosquitoes in various life stages, inspect prepared slides and vials under the microscope, and more.

Journey of the Germ

Journey of the Germ is an animated and interactive video that details how West Nile virus is spread from host to host by a mosquito. The experience illustrates the surprising difference a few degrees in temperature can make in the spread of West Nile virus.
