California Department of Public Health, Vector-Borne Disease Section (CDPH-VBDS) cautions all certification test takers to visit the CDPH-VBDS site and review the material provided for the certification test and not rely solely on materials provided by outside parties. START HERE: Category A - Alternative Study Materials
These materials use all the same text found on the CDPH slides but with added illustrations, memes, and other activities to make the material more memorable. The quiz scores are not recorded or tracked and simply give the user an idea of where they need to focus.
Category A Test Preparation Course Learning Objectives:
- Identify common California public health pests with an emphasis on disease vectors.
- List the major classifications, formulations and characteristics of pesticides.
- Explain pesticide labeling and implications for proper handling, application, storage, and disposal.
- Describe levels of toxicity of pesticides, implications for human health, and required protective clothing and equipment.
- Identify symptoms of pesticide poisoning, emergency response, and first aid steps.
- Describe common pesticide application equipment, use, maintenance, calibration techniques
- Calculate pesticide mixtures and application rates for a given treatment area with at least 70% accuracy.
- Explain changes in public health vector control and the future role of pesticides in IVM programs.
